‘Hurtful’ – Stourport Medical Centre hits back at negative comments

STAFF at the new Stourport Medical Centre have been subjected to “hurtful” and “disheartening” comments made on social media.

The Dunley Road surgery, which opened its doors in June after several delays in its development, has now hit back at negative comments made about the service.

On Facebook, the medical centre posted: “We are aware of negative, hurtful, comments that have been made on a local Facebook page about our service here at SMC.

“It is incredibly disheartening for our staff to read such negative comments when we are doing our utmost to provide the best service we can.

“Demand in General Practice across the country has reached an all time high and Stourport is also feeling the strain of this demand.

“We are lucky enough to have a strong workforce here at SMC and although we would love to recruit more clinicians, there is just not enough GPs available.

“Our reception staff work extremely hard to answer the enormous number of calls we receive every day (approx.. 1000 daily) and manage the queues that form at our desk.

“We are still awaiting delivery of our patient check in screens that should have arrived in June when we opened.

“Unfortunately, due to global supply issues, we are yet to receive these.

“This is not the fault of any staff here and certainly not our reception staff”.

The medical centre added: “When we are short staffed, the extra pressure on the remaining staff is very difficult – usually working additional hours to support the surgery to ensure the service continues.

“Please think before you take to social media to express your hurtful opinions, it is neither helpful nor conducive.

“We would really like to retain our staff here and that is unlikely if they are subject to rude, aggressive behaviour.

We really do appreciate all the support we get from many of our patients and are more than aware that the comments are usually from a minority”.
